Doomsday Clock set to 85 seconds to midnight

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists has moved the hands of the Doomsday clock to 85 seconds to midnight. It’s the closest the clock, a representation of the nuclear and climate risks to humanity, has ever been to global catastrophe. To move the clock back, WILPF-Canada calls on the Canadian government to:

  *   cancel plans to buy the nuclear-capable F-35 fighter jets
  *   refuse participation in Trump’s “Golden Dome”
* not waste $71 billion tax dollars on American missile defence
  *   withdraw from NATO and NORAD
  *   stop sending weapons to Ukraine and support a negotiated settlement with Russia
  *   stop sending weapons to nuclear-armed Israel and end the genocide in Gaza
  *   join the United Nations’ Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons
  *   put peace, disarmament and international cooperation at the centre of Canada’s foreign policy
  *   cut military spending and invest in climate action and sustainable development
