On the eve of the 81st anniversary of the United States’ atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, WILPF-Canada and VOW have sent a joint letter to Prime Minister Carney and Minister of Foreign Affairs Anand to appeal to them to have Canada join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), to plan to send a delegation to the first review conference of the TPNW in November, and to show leadership on nuclear disarmament. We say abolish nuclear weapons now!

Canada should follow the country of Tonga’s good example! In July, Tonga became the 100th country to join the TPNW. There are currently 75 countries that have ratified the treaty as well as 25 further signatories to it, learn more about the treaty here.
