My name is Huguette Sansonnet Hayden. I am a retired child and adolescent psychiatrist. I was born in France in 1944. I developed an anti war stance early in my life. My family were small farmers who had to go to war, my grandfather in WW 1, my uncles in WW 2 , my cousins in Algeria.
Still in France, I demonstrated against the Vietnam war and others.
In British Columbia since 1974, I became a member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNWC) who won the Nobel Peace Price . I joined the Unitarian Church of Vancouver (now the Vancouver Unitarians) in 2002 and joined WILPF around 2004 as they were meeting at the church at that time.
I realized early in my life that war does not lead to peace. Non-violent conflict resolution with justice , freedom and equality leads to peace.
Children have been my great preoccupation. In a world that spends trillions of dollars on weapons, I wish to leave to my 7 grand children and all children a world without nuclear threat and a deadly weapons industry.
Time is running out . This is why I joined the “On to Ottawa” peace caravan.
