I’ve been a human rights advocate for about 15 years with a focus primarily on justice
for Palestine, having travelled there on 3 separate occasions. The warmth and
generosity of its people are in stark contrast to the injustice they have suffered for so
many years. The parallels between the treatment of 1st Nations where I live and that of
Palestinians in their homeland is clear. As a settler in this part of Turtle Island, aka
Canada, I came to realize that I’m necessarily complicit in the oppression of so many
others, both in this part of the world and across the globe. Participating in this caravan is
one more step in addressing this, which will in turn, lead to further steps. For now, my
intention is to make a film about Canada and its role in war, climate change and
colonization. I believe we all have the responsibility to address the global crises facing
us.
With a background in film, Jase has been a human rights advocate for 15 years.
Primarily focussed on justice for Palestine, he’s a member of IJV, (Independent Jewish
Voices) as well as the Canadian Boat to Gaza, a partner in the Freedom Flotilla
Coalition. He’s also been a video journalist in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side, a
neighbourhood beset by multiple issues which, at their root cause, are linked to
colonization. He’s worked on climate issues and served as an ad hoc shop steward for
his union.
I’m participating in this caravan, making a film about it, as my next step in helping to
raise awareness and encourage others to be active in pushing for the change so
fundamentally needed both here and abroad.
