We call on Minister Joly to demilitarize conflict in Ukraine

WILPF Canada and WILPF Nanaimo were signatories to a recent Canadian coalition statement calling on Prime Minister Trudeau and Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly to de-escalate and demilitarize conflict between NATO and Russia over Ukraine. The coalition also include the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute, the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians Winnipeg Council, Artistes pour la Paix, Just Peace Advocates and Science for Peace among many other groups. Our statement urges the Trudeau government to reduce tensions by ending arms sales and military training in Ukraine, opposing Ukraine’s membership in NATO and signing the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. We also explain that more weapons, soldiers and special forces is not feminist foreign policy. We don’t want war. We want peace, diplomacy and neutrality for Ukraine.
