WILPF Canada celebrates the UN International Day of Peace on September 21

The UN General Assembly declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. This year’s theme is “End Racism, Build Peace”.

At the UN, the Secretary General Antonio Guterres gave a speech for Peace Day. He said, “Today, peace is under assault. The poison of war is infecting our world, by jeopardizing millions of lives, turning people against each other, pitting nation against nation, eroding security and wellbeing, [and] reversing development”.

In Canada, peace groups came together to issue a statement and host events to mark the UN International Day of Peace.
