As we step into 2025, we are pleased to share the WPSN-C 2024 Year in Review—a reflection on the past year’s challenges, achievements, and collective efforts in advancing the WPS agenda.
This past year has been one of profound global challenges, including for our Network, yet we have remained steadfast in our commitment to feminist peacebuilding, advocacy, and solidarity with women peacebuilders and human rights defenders worldwide. From shaping Canada’s WPS policies to amplifying critical voices in international discussions, WPSN-C has continued to play a vital role in pushing for accountability, justice, and meaningful action.
Some highlights from 2024 include:
Our leadership in shaping Canada’s 3rd National Action Plan on WPS, including a comprehensive analysis of its strengths and gaps.
Strengthened engagement with policymakers, including through our co-chairing role in the CNAP3 WPS Advisory Group and quarterly dialogues with Canada’s WPS Ambassador.
The deepening of our advocacy efforts on Palestine and Sudan through the creation and expansion of the Palestine and Sudan Working Groups, both of which have worked to centre feminist analysis and mobilise responses to the ongoing crises.
Expanding our global collaborations, notably through our partnerships with civil society counterparts in Colombia, DRC, Lebanon, Nigeria, and Rwanda, and active participation in international WPS discussions.
The growth of our membership and digital presence, fostering deeper connections across the feminist peacebuilding community.
This year has also been a period of transition for WPSN-C, including a leadership shift and an internal reflection on our ‘ways of working’ to ensure we stay true to our shared feminist values. Through this process, we have evaluated how we can continue to foster effective collaboration among our members while strengthening our accountability to one another and to the communities we seek to support.
As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed to fostering resilience, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring that the WPS agenda continues to centre the voices of those most impacted by conflict and violence. We invite you to read the full 2024 Year in Review and join us in reflecting on the lessons and priorities that will shape the year ahead.
Thank you for your continued engagement and dedication to feminist peace. Your contributions—whether through advocacy, research, or solidarity—are invaluable in advancing our shared mission.
In solidarity,
Katrina, on behalf of the Steering Committee (Alexandria, Bénédicte, Beth, Emily, Sandra and Sarah)
